Crafty Guru
Maggy from Red Ted Art

We are so excited to share a bit of information about our friend Maggy Woodley from Red Ted Art.

Red Ted Art is an amazing collection of great crafts for kids. They have a ton of great ides, great video and picture instructions and there's always something new!

Little Bit About Maggy & Her Inspiration

A little bit about me - I am half Austrian, half Spanish, living in the Uk – married to "The Englishman". I like to think of myself as an “European”.

I love all things crafty and I love all things arty. I love exploring and trying out new things.

I have two children (5yrs and 7yrs). I always enjoyed creating as a child and had a close family member that nurtured that creativity and also taught me to sew and knit. Many of the crafts I do with my children are based on things that I did as a child.

Maggy's 3 Pointers When Crafting with Kids

  • Keep it simple – don’t be too over ambitious.
  • I sometimes find it is helpful to make something first, so they have an “idea” of what we are making – but encourage the children to come up with their own versions – let their creativity shine.
  • I also find it helpful to prep a craft session – have a clear area to work at – uncluttered – as well as prep all the materials you need to get started.

Some of Maggy's Favourite Crafts

Oooh it is so hard to pick something  - but we enjoy:

Grass Heads

We love that they are recycled, inexpensive and how they combine science with art. Such a super fun project.

Loo Roll Crafts

ANYTHING to do with loo rolls – again a great recycled craft, brilliant for children who just love to make and tinker and it can be turned into so many fun play things!

Benefits of Crafting with Your Children

There are so many benefits – obviously there is creativity and imagination. But there are also a lot of benefits from things like developing fine motor skills and cognitive skills.

Also, it can help develop confidence and self esteem and never underestimate the power of “quality time” with a carer.

Maggy's Silliest, and Most Creative Craft

I don’t know about most creative.. but silliest certainly – edible pancake books – I made them as part of a challenge!
