Rainbow sand art is one of the best Summer crafts for kids. This will make a trip to the beach even more fun, as you can encourage kids to collect some sand!

Why not split your sand up and make lots of different colors! You can make one for every color of the rainbow!

This craft idea is suitable for preschool kids as well as older kids!

While we are talking about rainbow sand art, how about my free printable rainbow coloring page to do afterwards.

Rainbow Sand Art

Get a Tupperware container and fill it with clean beach sand. Bring this home and dye it rainbow colored!

Craft Supplies:

  • Beach Sand
  • Sifter
  • Bucket
  • Plastic Containers
  • Water
  • Fabric Dye (variety of colors)
  • Plastic Spoon
  • Paper Plate

Step #1:

Using your sifter and bucket, sift through all your sand to make sure it is clean and clear of debris.

Divide the sand into your plastic containers (fill a container for each color you want).

Step #2:

Add water to each container. Just enough so the sand is saturated.

Pour the dye into each container as well. (Note: the sand will dry slightly lighter than appearing when wet)

Step #3:

Mix the dye into the sand. Use a spoon and make sure the dye is mixed in completed.

Set the containers aside for at least an hour to let the dye soak in.

Step #4:

Place your damp sand onto paper plates (one for each color) and put them out in the sun to dry quicker.

Step #5:

Once they are all dry your sand is ready for your next sand art project.

To store it, just place it back in the plastic containers.

If the color is not bright enough for you, just repeat all the steps, add more dye and dry it again until you are happy.
