Pig Puppet Craft With Paper and Popsicle Sticks

Hands up who wants to do pig puppet craft with paper?! Yes my kids said yes too and that is why this post on how to make a pig puppet exists.

This pig and piglet craft for kids is great fun whilst teaching them at the same time. I would probably class this craft for school kids but preschool can do it too with the help of Mom!

This is great for teaching kids names of male, female and baby animals. If you like this idea you will also love my sheep family craft with popsicle sticks

This particular activity uses colored papers and popsicle sticks. It is reasonably quick to do and kids can practice their fine motor skills by cutting around the templates and sticking things down!

Please check out my list of pig crafts for kids! Here you can find out how to make pigs from paper plates, cups, paper rolls and more!

Pig Puppet Craft With Paper and Popsicle Sticks

Make Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig ang Piglet Puppet crafts for kids!

Materials

  • 1. Colored craft paper (2 shades of pink, blue, red and yellow)
  • 2. Three Popsicle sticks
  • 3. Marker to draw eyebrows
  • 4. Pencil
  • 5. Scissors to cut around templates
  • 6. Glue to stick things together

Instructions

Step 1:

Select at least 2 different shades of pink colored craft papers and other colored craft papers for the bow tie and flower. You can choose whatever colors you wish. I always let my kids pick so that they feel involved.

Before cutting out you need to trace the template patterns (main body, tail and 2 front/ top legs) on light pink craft papers and the rest of the patterns on darker shade. Keep a picture of the finished craft beside you to keep you right! Older kids should be able to do the tracing and cutting out.

Step 2:

Glue the inner ear cutouts in the middle of the ear parts of the main body cutout. The inner ear should be the darker shade of pink for contrast.

Step 3:

Glue the nose and the 2 blush cutouts for the cheeks.

Step 4:

Glue the tail and the feet cutouts.

Step 5:
Use a black pen or marker to draw the eyes and eyelashes, nose and other details of the paper pig. You can have him smiling or frowning!

Step 6:

Glue the front (top) leg and feet on both sides of the main body pattern of the paper pig.

Step 7:

Attach the paper pig on a popsicle stick to complete the puppet. I use plain colored ones but you could paint and decorate this also.

Step 8:

Similarly make the mother and father pig following the instructions above.

Add a bow tie to the father paper pig and a flower to the mother paper pig. You could also draw a band beside the flower and make it into a hairband!

It is nice to have something to differentiate all the members of the pig family!

Like all my activities I try to incorporate learning as much as possible! To be honest my 4 year old would draw and craft 24 hours a day if she could, so I want to make sure she is getting educational benefit as well.

Here I ask the name of the male (boar), female (sow) and baby pig (piglet).
