Sheep Family Craft with Popsicle Sticks

Make this adorable sheep family craft with popsicle sticks and paper. This is the perfect Spring craft for kids.

Make Mummy and Daddy sheep with their baby lamb. Teach kids that lambs are normally born during March and April!

You can also use this to talk about family and how Mummy and Daddy look after the lamb.

Quite often baby lambs are associated with Easter! You can see some of them in my list of toilet paper roll Easter crafts.

This easy paper craft for kids only requires a few materials which are cheap to buy.

Great for fine motor skills and creativity and encouraging kids to notice animals and nature in general when they are outdoors.

The fact that they are on popsicle sticks makes them great for pretend play afterwards as you can use them as puppets. I absolutely adore my paper bag animal puppets and so do all my children!

Sheep Family Craft with Popsicle Sticks

Yield: 1 family

An adorable animal craft for kids that helps you make a family of sheep with popsicle sticks and paper. These can them be used as puppets.

Materials

  • 1. Three Colored papers – white, brown and gray
  • 2. Plain colored Popsicle sticks
  • 3. Googly eyes
  • 4. Pencil for drawing
  • 5. Scissors to cut out the template
  • 6. Kids Craft glue
  • 7. Printable sheep family template

Instructions

Step 1:

Print and cut out the patterns from the provided template. The template includes patterns for the lamb (baby sheep), father sheep (the patterns with horns) and mother sheep.

First let’s start with the father sheep (ram). Trace and cut out the head and legs from gray colored craft papers, the horns from brown colored craft papers and the rest of the patterns from white or off-white paper.

Don't forget his bow tie! This particular ram likes to look smart. You can do his bow tie in any color.

Step 2:

Attach the head cutout on the top end of the body cutout (the bit that looks like a fluffy white cloud).

Step 3:

Attach the hair cut out (small cloud-like pattern) on the top end of the head.

Step 4:

Attach the horns on the top side of the head; sticking each horn above the each ear. You can explain to kids that male sheep are called rams and they have horns at this part, whereas females do not.

Attach the legs to the bottom side of the body. You can attach all 4 legs or you can attach 2; both ways look fine. Personally I prefer the look of 2 legs!

Step 5:

Attach the paper ram (father sheep) on a popsicle stick to complete the puppet craft. Encourage your kids to give him a name as they create him!

Step 6:
Similarly, craft the lamb and the mother sheep following the instructions above.
