Pine Cone Christmas Tree DIY

Pine cones can be found all over the ground in the late fall. Be sure to grab a bunch because there are many crafts we can make with them – big and small!

Remember to bake them so they are ready for crafts. Here’s how to do it: spread them out on a foil lined baking sheet and place them in the oven, preheated at 200 degrees. This will help the pinecones to open up, the sap to dry out and it will also kill any bugs that might be hiding inside.

If you don’t have any pine cones at the moment and you’d like to make some of these adorable mini Christmas trees, Amazon has lots of them.

This tiny Christmas tree is very portable so you can have Christmas with you all the time, though we are not sure if it works for Santa – just a decoration!

It is never too early too start making these, although I probably wouldn’t gift them as early as November. If you do not want to start Christmas crafts early you should check out my 30 November crafts for kids

Craft Supplies

Step #1:

Pinecone Christmas tree step 1

Paint your entire pinecone with the green paint.

Allow it to dry. While it dries you can start to decorate the real Christmas tree, or start your letter to Santa.

Step #2:

Once the green paint has dried, apply white paint to the tip of each leaf of the pine cone.

This gives a look of snow on the ends of the branches.

Again, let it dry. While it is doing that why not make some of our pipe cleaner Christmas ornaments.

Step #3:

Pinecone Christmas tree step 3

With a pipe cleaner (which ever color you prefer) create a star shape for the top of your tree.

Step #4:

Once your white paint has dried, place the star on the top of your tree.

Twist the pipe cleaner around a top branch to secure it in place.

Step #5:
