December is all about Christmas trees! We can never have enough of them, but it can be time consuming to put them up! 

If you want some Christmas tree fun without the lengthy decorating, then my cute Christmas tree drawing for kids is the perfect activity! Learn how to draw a Christmas tree the easy way!

Easy Christmas Tree Drawing

Christmas trees are everywhere in December. They are probably even more talked about than Santa Claus himself! We all take great pride in decorating ours.

In our house we also do lots of easy Christmas tree crafts to keep the kids entertained on miserable afternoons. These make pretty decor for our home! We also made a Christmas tree pop up card to send to Grandparents! 

Recently I thought it was able time we learned how to draw a Christmas tree easy as we could use this for some crafts and also for coloring in! 

I always think drawing is a hard thing to master but when you break it down into easy steps it becomes achievable for anyone.

What do you need to draw an easy Christmas Tree

Like most of my easy drawings for kids you do not require many materials. When you gather these together you will have them for other drawing activities in the future (a worthwhile investment).

  • Cold pressed art paper
  • Pencil – hb and 2b
  • Cotton bud/swab or tissue/ napkins
  • Oil pastel crayons

How to Draw a Christmas Tree Easily

Little kids will be able to follow my picture instructions below to help them complete their own Christmas tree drawing. 

Older children will be able to follow the written instructions.

Adults may also enjoy doing this easy Christmas drawing.

Step 1:

Prepare your art paper and pencil. Use hb pencil to draw the rough outline. Start by drawing triangle. You can make it any size you wish.

Step 2:

Divide the triangle horizontally, into 4 even parts.

Step 3:

Draw curve lines outwards, from each dividing point as shown below.

Step 4:

Let’s start from the top. Join the open ends of the 2 top curves with a wavy or zigzag line.

Step 5:

Similarly, join the rest of the curve lines. The tree outline is complete.

Step 6:

Carefully erase the triangle and the dividing outlines and draw the trunk.

Step 7:

Draw the ornaments on the tree.

Step 8:

Draw star on the tip of the tree or you can draw it later, however you like.

Step 9:

Color the star and the ornaments.

Step 10:

Take a light green crayon and color the half of the top part of the tree using the light green crayon.

Step 11:

Fill the bottom half of the top part using a darker shade of green.

Step 12:

One by one, color the rest of the parts.

Step 13:

Color the trunk using a brown crayon. Keep the border darker.

Step 14:

Use a cotton bud/swab or napkin to blend the 2 green shades nicely. I have just done the top part of the Christmas tree in the picture below.

You can see how different it looks from the other parts of the tree when it is blended. Little kids will need help with this part for sure.

Step 15:

Blend all 4 parts nicely.

Step 16:

Add a few strokes of dark green on the light green parts. It is so subtle you would need to look very carefully at the picture to see this. Older kids should be able to complete this step alone.

Step 17:

Now, blend the colors nicely again and then blend the trunk part as well.

Step 18:

Use a 2b pencil to trace the tree outline to give it a neat finishing.

Variations of this Cute Christmas Tree draw easy

You can change this in so many ways! Maybe you might want to draw lots of different ones? 

Christmas trees can be silver, black or pink so why not try drawing in a different color.

You could also draw a different topper. How about changing the color of the decorations? You could even draw some candy canes.
