I love doing animal crafts with my preschool kids! They love going outdoors and learning about nature.

Just recently we found some caterpillars on leaves and this led me to teach them all about them and how they turn into butterflies!

Butterfly crafts will be next on our to do list after we make some of our own caterpillars! The only difference is that ours will stay as caterpillars forever and not transition into the winged creature.

One of my favorite educational Spring preschool crafts this year and compliments my pom pom caterpillar!

Please follow my easy step by step Caterpillar craft tutorial which you can complete in less than 15 minutes! Best of all it only requires a few different materials so is perfect for completing in the classroom.

Paper Caterpillar Craft for Kids

This Paper Caterpillar Craft for Kids will help them make their own rainbow colored insect this Spring! Perfect for preschool and older children.

Materials

Cardstock paper.
Craft papers.
Pencil.
Ruler.
Scissors.
Glue.
Googly eyes.
Pipe cleaners.

Instructions

Step 1:

Cut out long colorful paper strips (6×2 inches).

Step 2:

Take one paper strip, apply glue at one end then join it with the other end to make a ring.

Step 3:

Now take another paper strip put it inside the previous ring.

Step 4:

Similarly like before, glue the ends of the orange paper strip together to make the next ring.

Step 5:

Repeat this process.

Step 6:

Make long set of paper rings. Once you are happy with the length you can stop. This is the caterpillar's body.

Step 7:

Glue two googly eyes on the front ring.

Step 8:

Cut out to short pieces of pipe cleaners.

Make a little swirls on one end of the pipe cleaners.

Step 9:

Now, tape of glue the pipe cleaners on top of the caterpillar's head.

You can make lots of other animals by making rings and just changing the head pattern! How about an easy snake craft or a crocodile.

These type of paper crafts help you make garlands which can be used for decorating! I do remember making some Christmas decorations like this when I was a little girl.
