DIY Seashell Wind Chime

What better way to decorate than a home-made chime. We’ve created these shell crafts to make a wind chime out of sea shells.

A great decoration for the summer months! I also love the fact that we get to go out for a long walk on the beach to hand pick our shells before we start doing this craft.

The beach is a 5 minute drive from our house and it is so much fun to watch my kids get excited over the shells they pick, and how they try to find ones that are unique! This means that no 2 sea shell crafts are the same!

Is it almost fall? We’ve also made a great fall wind chime out of a tin can.

A beautiful seaside craft that lets you make a seashell wind chime! This shell mobile will be one of your kids favorite summer crafts!

Materials

  • Sea shells
  • Bristol board
  • String
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Markers/Pencil crayons
  • Glue (a glue gun works well too)
  • Scissors

Instructions

Step #1:

Pick out 6-8 of your favourite sea shells. Cut a piece of string for each shell.

Glue one end of the string into each shell (we used hot glue guns to speed up our process, if you use white glue just make sure to allow it to dry completely).

Step #2:

Cut out a strip of white Bristol board and decorate it with a summery theme – we drew a beach. Bend the Bristol board into a circle and glue it in place.

Step #3:

Punch a hole on either side of the top end of your Bristol board. Thread through a pipe cleaner. Twist the pipe cleaner around itself to hold it in place.

Step #4:

You can do this last step two different ways. We chose to glue each piece of string onto the bottom half (on the inside) of the Bristol board. You can also punch holes and thread it through.
