The end result is a beautiful love Bug which can be kept in your own house for decoration or gifted to someone you care about!

Materials

  • Clay Pots, 2.5” – Dollar Store
  • Chenille Stems, Tinsel – Dollar Store
  • Pom Poms, Tinsel, Large and Small – Dollar Store
  • Googly Eyes – Dollar Store
  • White Paper Doilies – Dollar Store
  • Rhinestones, Heart Shaped (average size)– Dollar Store
  • Craft Paint in 3 colors – Light Pink, Hot Pink and Red
  • Pencil with new Eraser
  • Black Marker

Tools

  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors

Instructions

STEP 1

Place all your supplies in front of you at your workstation.  Remove labels from the clay pots.  Paint one coat on each clay pot in each color, red, hot pink and light pink.  This is great if you have two kids as you can all do one each. Leave to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP 2

Cut the chenille stem into four-inch sections, bend in half and then attach a large pom pom to each end with a glue gun and glue sticks. Unfortunately young kids will just have to watch Mum or Dad doing this step.

STEP 3

Add a face to the love bug with googly eyes, a small pom pom nose and then draw on a smile with the black marker.  Accent mouth with cheeks created by dipping a new pencil eraser in the paint.

STEP 4

We need to make some wings next and we do this by cutting a triangle from each circular doily.  This is a good opportunity to teach kids how to create shapes using scissors. Gather the opposite end and attach to back of love bug with the glue gun.

STEP 5

Attach a heart shaped rhinestone to each love bug with the glue gun.  Decorate the bottom of each love bug with contrasting polka dots as shown in the image, created by dipping a new pencil eraser in the paint.
