This craft is a great way to recycle those empty jars.

Depending on how you want your candle holder to look like, you just pick the type of jar to use.

We chose one from roasted red peppers.

This winter craft is super easy, and can be done by almost all ages… including preschoolers. It will only take 15-20 minutes and three easy steps.

If it is still cold out when you finish this craft, we have tons more winter crafts for kids like these:

  • Paper Roll Polar Bear: Use an empty paper roll and some cotton balls to make a cute polar bear.
  • Q-Tip Snowflakes: Take some of the q-tips out of the bathroom to make non-melting snowflakes.

Winter Glass Jar Crafts for Preschoolers: How to Make Winter Candleholders

Craft Supplies:
  • Empty jar
  • Glitter paint (something wintry)
  • Shoelace
  • Candle
  • Paintbrush
  • Glue
Time to Complete:

15-20 minutes (plus drying times)

Age Range:

3 years and up (younger ones need some supervision)

Step #1:

Paint the inside of you jar with your chosen glitter paint. We found a great winter themed glitter paint – it is filled with snowflakes and stars.

Choosing a glitter paint that has some clear paint will give the holder a look that resembles ice.

Step #2:

Use the same glitter paint and put it around the rim of your jar.

Set the jar aside to dry, while it is drying you can check out our other winter crafts for kids.

Step #3:

Wrap the shoelace around the jar and cut it into lengths long enough to go around. Cut enough lengths to cover the jar.

Place a bead of glue around the rim of your jar. Wrap a white shoelace pieces around the jar. Cut off any excess.

NOTE: This part is much easier and less messy if you use hot glue (with supervision).

Now, its as simple as adding a tea light candle into your jar and lighting it.

These winter crafts for preschoolers are a beautiful way of decorating this winter.

These would make excellent gifts for Grandparents or Aunties. Why not make lots of them and sell them at a Christmas market!
